A THOUGHT FROM ME
“People rarely stay stuck because they enjoy where they are. They stay stuck because something feels unsafe about moving forward.”
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
You may know exactly what needs to change. You may have thought about it countless times, talked about it with other people and imagined how different life could be if you finally moved forwards.
Yet despite your best intentions, something keeps holding you in the same place. The frustrating part is that it often doesn’t make sense. Part of you genuinely wants change, whilst another part seems determined to stay exactly where it is.
WHAT MAY REALLY BE HAPPENING
The part of you that wants more from life is often fighting with the part that wants to keep life predictable.
Many people assume they’re lacking motivation, discipline or confidence when they struggle to move forwards. What often sits underneath is an internal conflict between growth and safety. One part can see the opportunities, possibilities and benefits of change. Another part is focused on avoiding risk, uncertainty, disappointment or discomfort.
This is why people can feel completely committed to a goal whilst simultaneously resisting it. The resistance is not usually a sign that you don’t want the outcome. It’s often a sign that part of you is trying to protect you from what it believes moving forward might cost. Until both sides of that internal conversation are understood, progress can feel like driving with one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake.
A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE
Perhaps the question is not whether you want to move forwards.
Maybe the more useful question is what part of you believes staying where you are is the safer option.
When people stop treating resistance as the enemy and start becoming curious about it, they often discover valuable information. The barrier is rarely random. More often, it’s trying to tell you something about what feels uncertain, risky or important.
SOMETHING TO CONSIDER
What would become possible if the part of you seeking safety trusted that you could handle what comes next?
